What the Delta Mag is
The Delta Mag is GTT’s largest stock production torch. It is a 3 Triple Mix bench burner with three separately controlled fires: a 7-jet Lynx center fire, a middle fire, and an outer fire. In the catalog that totals 88, and the exact count depends on which middle fire the torch is built with (a Phantom middle and a Mirage middle carry different jet counts while reaching the same maximum flame size). Its oxygen appetite is roughly ~54 LPM, which is an estimate rather than a published hard number, and the reference price is $4,250.
GTT designed it for workers who like the flame size of a Phantom or a Mirage but need more heat for fast melt-ins and rapid heating in production work. The three independently controlled fires let you dial a small detail flame from the center alone or open all three for a large, hot working envelope, which is what makes it a production tool rather than just a big flame.
It ships as a complete, ready-to-run package. GTT lists the standard Delta Mag with a raw manifold, red, blue, and green valve caps, rack-and-pinion adjustment, and a powder-coated base drilled with holes so you can secure it to the work table. It includes two feet of 3/16 inch hose with filter-screen adapters to standard 1/4 inch ID hose on each stud. In other words, you order it and it arrives configured; there is no design conversation.
What the Quadzilla is
The Quadzilla is a different kind of purchase. It is a 4 Triple Mix “super torch” that GTT builds to order, and it is explicitly not a stock item. Because each one is assembled to the buyer’s specification, GTT describes nearly endless configuration combinations, so the jet count varies by configuration and there is no single catalog spec to quote. GTT offers two options on the Quadzilla worth knowing before you inquire:
- Powder-coating and added colors. These are requested at the time of order. GTT applies added colors after the torch is built and tested, which adds two to three days to the lead time. That two-to-three-day figure is for the color work specifically, not the whole build; do not read it as the total lead time for a custom torch.
- A compressed-air option, also requested at order time, for shops set up to run air on part of the torch rather than pure oxygen throughout.
Because a Quadzilla runs four fire stages, many shops pair it with foot pedals so the operator can switch between stages hands-free during production work, keeping both hands on the glass. That is a workflow choice rather than a required accessory, but it is common enough to plan for.
The shared Triple Mix core
Neither torch is a plain surface-mix burner, and understanding why explains what you are paying for at this end of the line. GTT’s Triple Mix technology surrounds the fuel with oxygen and then injects oxygen directly into the fuel stream, so the fuel burns more completely for a hotter, cleaner flame, and the two oxygen streams are independently controllable.
The detail core is the same on both. The 7-jet Lynx serves as the center fire for all of GTT’s larger two- and three-stage Triple Mix torches, so a Delta Mag or a Quadzilla gives you the same standalone Lynx precision at the center as its dedicated fine-flame core, then stacks additional fires around it for raw heat. When you compare these two torches, you are not comparing flame quality at the center. You are comparing how many stages of heat you can wrap around that shared core, and whether you buy that as a fixed stock configuration or a commissioned one.
When a stock Delta Mag is enough
For the large majority of buyers looking at this tier, the Delta Mag is the right answer, and here is the honest test. The Delta Mag is enough when:
- You are doing large boro, thick solid work, big cane pulls, or production melt-ins, and you want a lot of controllable heat around a fine center. That is exactly the job GTT built the Delta Mag for.
- A three-stage flame envelope covers your largest piece. Most studio and production work does.
- You want to buy a known, fixed configuration and start working without a design conversation or a wait.
- You want a documented reference price and a documented spec sheet before you commit.
A stock torch that ships configured, with a reference price and a published jet range, removes a lot of uncertainty. If your work fits inside its envelope, the Delta Mag is not a compromise against the Quadzilla; it is the tool that was designed for that work.
When a shop commissions a Quadzilla
You move to a Quadzilla when you can name a specific reason a fourth stage or a bespoke build matters to your shop. Typical reasons:
- You genuinely need a fourth fire stage of heat for the scale of work you produce, beyond what three stages deliver.
- You want a configuration the stock lineup does not offer, such as a specific mix of fire sizes, the compressed-air option, or a particular powder-coat and color scheme for a studio build.
- You are outfitting a production station around the torch (foot pedals, a fixed bench, a matched oxygen system) and want the burner specified to that station rather than adapted to it.
The purchase itself is different from ordering a stock torch. Expect to contact GTT and have a spec conversation: what stages and fire sizes you need, whether you want compressed air, what powder-coat or colors, and how the torch fits your bench and gas supply. GTT then quotes pricing on that configuration and gives you a build lead time. Adding colors extends that by the two to three days noted above. None of this is a drawback of the torch; it is what commissioning a custom burner involves, and it is the reason the Quadzilla can be almost anything you need it to be.
The oxygen and infrastructure reality
A torch at this scale is only half the system, and the smaller half. Large multi-stage boro torches are oxygen-hungry, and this is the constraint that most often decides whether a shop is ready for either of these torches, let alone which one.
An oxygen concentrator cannot feed a torch this size. A high-purity concentrator puts out roughly 5 LPM, and even high-capacity units land around 10 LPM, which is nowhere near the volume or the pressure a large multi-stage Triple Mix torch demands. Production shops running torches at this tier use tanked oxygen (K-tanks) or a commercial HVLP oxygen system instead.
