The real first bench torch. This is an oxygen/fuel torch on a stand, fed by an oxygen supply, capable of soft glass and at least some borosilicate. It is where the actual cost of the hobby shows up, because the torch pulls a whole system in behind it: oxygen, fuel regulators, and eventually a kiln. Tanks. You buy or lease a compressed-oxygen cylinder, add an oxygen regulator, and pay for refills. Fuel and regulators

Most beginners run propane, which is portable and widely available and needs a propane regulator sized for your torch. If you have natural gas plumbed to your space, some torches support it with the correct regulator, and this is where the low-pressure torches change the math. None of these is a single big number, but plan for a modest, recurring spend as you go, and expect glass rod to be an ongoing cost rather than a one-time buy.
